The Mighty CC65R Combi Crusher

The CC65R Combination Crusher By Mantovanibenne

Combined Crusher from MBI Demolition Recycling

When it comes to large scale demolition, the ultimate tool for operations on reinforced concrete and metal structures the combination crusher is the way to go. The design incorporates characteristics of crushers and shears to deliver performance even in the toughest of situations. The quality Italian make and attention to detail in the design of the crusher is to be experienced. The performance aspect of the crusher is derived from the powerful cylinders and the twin pin system that contributes to the breaking and cutting force. The jaws incorporate sharp shear shaped blades that guide the cutting power to be executed in a clean controllable manner for the operator.

CRD delivered this special combi crusher to Priestly Demoliton Inc, the stars of the hit television show Salvage Kings. The Combi Crusher was the perfect tool for them to take on their latest project of razing the old SickKids Building in Toronto to make way for the new. The demolition had to happen in a confined space of the city limits and the site had to be demolished quickly, that is why we recommended the MBI CC65R for this job. The speed valve on this combi crusher reduces the opening and closing time significantly helping to boost productivity during operation times.

Industrial Wear Solutions For ArcelorMittal Dofasco

photo of a Quench Ca at a construction site

When an Ontario based coke plant by ArcelorMittal Dofasco had to perform maintenance on their large and small Quench Cars, the Hamilton-based coke plant was looking to get better abrasion resistance and prevent the quench car from warping and eventually developing cracks.

Mike Choma, our in house Wear consultant offered a solution in a specific high alloy composite steel liner plates, chosen for its high abrasion and impact resistance qualities compared to the older AR400 BHN steel. The liner plates used for the rework of the quench car have directly contributed to better wear and tear resistance and see’s a 50% increase in its usage lifecycle.

CRDCreighton provides custom solutions for Wear issues with an eye on the right balance of price and quality. Reach out to Mike Choma (mchoma@creightonrock.com)to get a consultation.

The Best Coupler Systems For Excavators

OilQuick Automatic Quick Couplers

The ability to switch between attachments quickly and with ease is an edge worth upgrading to for any crew on a job site. Quick coupler systems enable that with ease, the earliest examples of the coupler system was introduced in the ’90s by Oilquick, and the core design has more or less stayed the same with some improvements in universal acceptance design for most attachments and quality seeing changes for later years. The ability of the coupler system to help the operator engage the switch between attachments within the safety of the cab and reduce unnecessary manual muscling of pins and cross-checks can save a ton of time in the long run along with increases in safety. This system is available for excavators from 1t to 120t sizes. Oilquick a pioneer brand in the coupler system has attachment adapters for Mechanical attachments, Hydraulic attachments, Pendling Attachments or Hydraulic bolt-on adapters as well.

Ecovolve and DXR delivers muscle for gym demolition

Ecovolve ED800 A Versatile-Electric Demolition Clearer
man using a Ecovolve dump cart inside a tunnel

Lifting weight at a GoodLife Fitness center isn’t an unusual task. However, when the weight is 650 tonnes of demolition debris that must travel through an active gym, selecting the right tools is imperative.

Capital Cutting & Coring Group (CCC Group), was recently contracted by GoodLife Fitness at the St. Laurent mall in Ottawa to demolish a pool and dispose of all the waste. However, here’s the catch: GoodLife Fitness is open 24/7 and required that the demolition job didn’t interfere with the gym’s clientele.

“Our core business is concrete cutting, coring, and small demolition,” said Jesse Noonan, senior project manager for CCC Group.

“But a job like this would require us to somehow transport 650 tonnes of processed concrete from the pool, through a crowded gym full of equipment and people, and finally to a disposal area within the building. All while ensuring the safety and comfort of the public.”

The ED800 Is The Smallest Of Ecovolve’s E-Dumpcart Lineup.

However, it is capable of hauling 800 kg of material. It is entirely battery-powered, and delivers eight hours of life, while remaining fast, silent and emitting zero emissions.

“The results have been nothing short of a revelation,” Noonan said.

Working in tandem with Husqvarna’s DXR300 demolition robot and with a crew of two people, the ED800 was able to dispose of nearly a ton of processed concrete every 10 minutes. Most importantly, it navigated the narrow and crowded passageways of the gym and building with ease.

This is just the beginning for CCC Group. Not only are they able to offer quick concrete removal solutions to their clients who require zero-emission and noise-sensitive solutions, but they are now far less constrained by labour supply shortages.

Mike Choma Joins Creighton Rock Drill As Wear Solutions Manager

Contact Mike Choma:

Transcript

Q1. – Hello Mike! Congratulations on your new position with Creighton Rock Drill as the Wear Solutions Manager. I understand you bring a significant amount of experience to this role.

Mike: Thank you. Yes, for the past 20 years I have been dealing with impact, abrasion, and corrosion resistant steel plate, shafting and fabrication

Q2.  – When we talk specifically about Wear Solutions, what does that entail?

Mike: At Creighton Rock Drill, we want to establish ourselves as a leader in wear solutions.  We want to find that value added solution for the customers issue in an effort to increase productivity and minimize downtime.

Q3. – So if I understand correctly, the industries involved are FORESTRY, MINING, QUARRY & AGGREGATE, RECYCLING and ROADBUILDING?

Mike: To name a few yes. You could also add STEEL MILLS, CEMENT and ASPHALT PLANTS as well.

Q4.  – Can you share with us a couple of unique or large projects that you have been involved with?

Mike: I have coordinated a re-lining of truck boxes, dozer blades and large buckets on a fleet of mobile construction equipment.

Completed a project of re-lining of a BF stock house, utilizing a variety of wear materials for maximum efficiency

Also completed were 21” and 22” material pipe handling

Q5.  – For many of us who just see steel as a heavy piece of strong plate, has steel really changed that much over the years?

Mike: Absolutely, not all steels are the same.  There are over 3,000 grades of steel and within the abrasion resistant group of steels there are different grades with varying chemistry and mechanical properties each providing different performance.

Q6.  – Sounds like there’s a lot of choices with very specific solutions for each application. How would you help the end user decide which is best for them?

Mike: The customer and Creighton would have to work together to understand the application. Every wear issue has different variables.  Through a series of questions and discussion of customer priority we would match the product to the best solution.

Q7 – Thank you Mike! We have learned a lot more about steel and the many options that are available to each application and user.

If anyone would like to tap into your knowledge, how could they contact you?

Getting Into A Tight Spot

Remote Controlled Robot Helps Bronte Construction Tackle A Fragile Challenge.

When Bronte Construction Was Bidding The Pelee Point Boardwalk Restoration Project, They Knew They Were Signing Themselves Up For A Challenge. Tasked With Repairing A Decade Old Boardwalk In The Provincial Park’s Wetlands, Bronte’s Obstacle Was To Figure Out A Way To Deliver The Necessary Torque Required To Drive Piles From A Structure Not Strong Enough To Support The Weight Of The Machines That Could Ordinarily Deliver It.

“We put our heads together to come up with a creative solution”, said Mike Kelly Bronte’s Deep Foundation Superintendent

Bronte, in the end, teamed up with Creighton Rock Drill in Mississauga to see if they could both come up with a better solution. Collectively, they decided to deploy the Husqvarna DXR 140 remote-controlled demolition robot.  Not only are these highly precise, maneuverable and stable machines able to work in the tightest and most dangerous job situations, but they’re also capable of delivering tremendous power at a fraction of the weight.

Bronte was able to operate and maneuver the machine directly from the boardwalk! it also had no difficulty driving the piles into the wetlands. It became clear to both Bronte and Creighton Rock that the possibilities of the DXR could only be limited by the imaginations of those using it.

“It was the perfect tool for the job. It’ll be really exciting to see what we’ll be able to do with it next” said Mike Kelly.
