Every year, McFadyen’s hand splits thousands of tons of heavy granite from only the highest quality slabs pulled from their quarry. However, by utilizing conventional demolition methods to generate the external force necessary to remove these heavy slabs, some times they can be made unusable by internal fracturing.

Introducing the C20 Rock Splitter. The C20 is German manufacturer Darda’s latest addition to its hydraulic rock and concrete splitter lineup that offers another exciting solution to rock breaking. The C20 provides users a safer, quieter, more precise, and in some cases even a quicker alternative to more traditional forms of rock breaking including chemical and explosive demolition.

Controlled splitting is useful in industries that include mining, quarrying, tunneling, construction and demolition. The C20 is advantageous over its counterparts due to its superior control, durability, safety and in the long run economics. Generating 1800 tons of actual splitting force, the C20 thrives against even the hardest of rocks. With no downed units in North America to date, the C20 is a proven tool that can always be counted on.

To put the C20 to the test, Creighton Rock Drill (CRD) was joined by Darda’s New Jersey base dealer of rock splitting equipment, for demonstrations at some of Ontario’s best quarries including McFadyen’s.

Here, the C20 did not fail to impress. The McFadyen team was surprised by the C20’s quick setup, ease of operation, and ability to split their hard granite in under 20 seconds. With experience and mastering of the rock splitting process, it was clear the C20 had the potential to compete with the speed of traditional demolition.

Most of all, McFadyen’s site foreman Steve Thompson could see that:
