BEARING STRESS

Bearing Stress Charts

Bearing stress is the contact pressure between the pin and box at the make-up shoulder. As the tool joint is tightened, the bearing stress at the make-shoulder increases. The maximum bearing stress is the function of the maximum torque and the total area of make-up shoulder. BESTOLIFE HONEY KOTE™ protected the NC50 tool joint from galling caused by high bearing stresses. The 54,500 ft-lbs. created calculated bearing stress on the make-up shoulder to 143,500 psi.

The pressure test objective is to show the ability of BESTOLIFE HONEY KOTE™ to seal very high pressure at the makeup shoulder. The test was conducted by increasing pressure incrementally up to 25,000 psi, about 10,000 psi higher than pressure used in fracking operations.

STINGER™ HDD-ALL SEASON is a copper-based drilling compound for use in all HDD drilling applications. It is especially effective in lower temperature environments but has the versatility to be used year-around. STINGER™ HDD-ALL SEASON is designed to provide galling and seizing protection and support for high bearing stress on HDD pipe joints.

APPLICATIONS

Recommended for use on HDD Drill Pipe and developed for rugged conditions. Low temperature field application is enhanced through the use of a premium quality, low temperature base grease, making it an outstanding choice for environments reaching below 0ºF. Can be brushed on threads or applied via most automated lubrication systems.

STINGER™ ENVIRO is an environmentally-friendly, non-metallic thread compound for all HDD drilling applications. STINGER™ ENVIRO is a versatile drilling compound that applies easily in a wide range of temperatures and conditions.

APPLICATIONS

Recommended for use on all HDD Drill Pipe and developed as a formula which can be used in environmentally sensitive areas. Can be brushed on threads or applied via most automated lubrication systems. In addition to the galling and seizing protection provided by the solids, it also contains a premium high temperature grease base that helps provide the load-carrying capability required by the high-bearing stresses present in HDD Drill Pipe connections.

DESCRIPTION

BESTOLIFE® 3000® was the first totally non-metallic drilling compound, formulated to address environmental concerns as well as the costs of thread compounds with high percentages of heavy metals. The formulation contains a variety of amorphous and synthetic graphite-based materials that combine to make a gasket-like seal to prevent connection washout even under high internal fluid pressures. The use of premium quality, high temperature based grease enhances its performance.

Non-metallic compound for rotary-shouldered connections.
